2010 Science Fair winners go on to compete at next level
Best in Show! Mary Phillips Hubert, 7th grader from Incarnate Word Academy with her teacher Betty Hill.

The 17th Annual Diocesan Science Fair was held March 27 on the campus of Incarnate Word Academy.

Students from grades kindergarten through eighth grade competed for the opportunity to advance to the Coastal Bend Science Fair to be held on April 30 to May 2 at Texas A&M University.

Sixteen Catholic schools were represented at the Diocesan level with over 250 competitors. The top four winners will advance to the Coastal Bend Science Fair with fifth place as an alternate. The students, representing the diocesan Catholic schools in the Coastal Bend Science Fair are:

Kinder School winners: 1st place winner, Colette Leal from Ss. Cyril & Methodius; 2nd place winner, Matty Sandoval from St. Joseph-Alice; 3rd place winner, Sydney Benoit from Holy Family; 4th place winner, Jaymie Maldonado from Central Catholic Elementary; 5th place winner, Rianne Olivares from St. Patrick.

First grade winners: 1st place, Catherine Thomas from Incarnate Word Academy Elementary; 2nd place, Matthew Casarez from Central Catholic Elementary; 3rd place, Matthew Molina from St. Elizabeth-Alice. 4th place, Analisa Gallegos from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Academy; 5th place, Jerry Gonzalez from St. Anthony-Robstown;

Second grade winners: 1st place, Nicolas Garza from St. Pius X; 2nd place, Javier Castillo from Most Precious Blood; 3rd place, Josef Cuevas from Central Catholic Elementary; 4th place, Bailee Niewinski from Incarnate Word Academy Elementary; 5th place, Mya Cruz from St. Elizabeth;

Third grade winners: 1st place, JD Vasquez from Most Precious Blood; 2nd place, Holden White - Farrell from St. Elizabeth; 3rd place, Lorenzo Villalobos from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Academy; 4th place, Alexandra Martinez from Central Catholic Elementary; 5th place, Joshua Maldonado from Central Catholic Elementary.

Fourth grade winners: 1st place, Eric Kuhn from Incarnate Word Academy Elementary; 2nd place, Kayla Martinez from Ss. Cyril & Methodius; 3rd place, Mateo Guerra from St. Gertrude; 4th place, Andy De Leon from Central Catholic Elementary; 5th place, Mando Tello from St. Elizabeth.

Fifth grade winners: 1st place, Michael Rock from Incarnate Word Academy Elementary; 2nd place, Savanah Hernandez from St. Pius X; 3rd place, Ian Simmons from Incarnate Word Academy Elementary; 4th place, Trinity Lozano from St. Gertrude; 5th place, Lalita Navarro from Ss. Cyril & Methodius.

Sixth grade winners are: 1st place, Bianca Garcia from Bishop Garriga Middle Preparatory School; 2nd place, Alaney Eberhard from St. Elizabeth; 3rd place, Jenna Clark from Incarnate Word Academy Middle; 4th place, Thalia Parizot from Incarnate Word Academy Middle; 5th place, Miranda Rouse from St. Elizabeth.

Seventh grade winners are: 1st place, Mary Hubert from Incarnate Word Academy Middle; 2nd place, Cristina Matl from Incarnate Word Academy Middle; 3rd place, Jared Coco from Incarnate Word Academy Middle; 4th place, Denise Del Angel from St. Anthony; 5th place winner Trey Gonzalez from St. Anthony.

Eighth grade winners are: 1st place, Zacharia Villareal from Bishop Garriga Middle Preparatory School; 2nd place, Brendan Bottom from Incarnate Word Academy Middle; 3rd place, James Matl from Incarnate Word Academy Middle; 4th place, Eric Willingham from St. Anthony; 5th place, Hayden Sager from Bishop Garriga Middle Preparatory School.

Winner of Best in Show was Mary Hubert (7th grade) from Incarnate Word Academy Middle.

Exhibit Registration will be at Texas A & M University -Corpus Christi on Friday, April 30 from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Districts and/or Diocese will be assigned registration times for Friday, April 30. Judging of exhibits at TAMUCC will take place on Saturday, May 1.

Exhibition Open House will take place on Sunday, May 2 at 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. The Awards Ceremony will take place at 3:00 p.m.
