Kingsville celebrates the Feast of Corpus Christi
Nearly 200 people took part in the procession for the Feast of Corpus Christi in Kingsville on June 6.

On Sunday, June 6, nearly 200 people gathered at Our Lady of Good Counsel parish in Kingsville to celebrate the Holy Eucharist also known as the Feast of Corpus Christi, a Latin term for the "Body of Christ".

Despite the 90-plus degree weather, many Kingsville residents witnessed a large procession of people singing, and proclaiming what many Catholics believe to be the greatest of all sacraments- the Holy Eucharist.

Weeks before the event, organizers randomly asked four homeowners along the route if they would offer their yard for a make-shift altar where a Gospel reading and Psalms would take place and each one happily gave their approval.

One of the homeowners was Elida Arispe, 85, who was escorted by her son and daughter-in-law Jesse and Anita Arispe. Her eyes were filled with tears as Father Peter Thenan approached her home bearing the Blessed Sacrament.  "It was very nice," said Arispe in a soft tone. "I loved the music."

At each home, Father Thenan delivered a gospel reading and then followed the procession which led back to the church. He was escorted by the Knights of Columbus.

At the end of event, Father Thenan thanked the large of crowd of people. "This has been a moving experience for me to walk in procession with the Holy Eucharist," says Father Thenan. "May the devotion of the Holy Eucharist grow within us."

Organizers of the event were surprised with the large turnout and hope to make the event bigger and better as the years go by.
