Veterans honored at Feast of Visitation
|
As Memorial Day coincided with the Feast of Visitation, Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Kingsville, chose to honor the veterans of our parish at the prayer of Rosary at the grotto in the court yard of the church.
Our soldiers have always answered our country's call to duty and fought no matter what the cause or reason for the war. We are proud of those men and women who have played an important part in defending our freedoms throughout our history. The events of these wars and the people that fought and died for this country are valued by all Americans as links to our common heritage and our growth as a nation. Our community recognized their sacrifices by praying for them, honoring them and thanking them for what they are to our nation.
Captain Ruben Soliz, a recent returned soldier from Iraq crowned the Blessed Virgin. The presence of Mr. Martha Cruz Jr., a prisoner of World War II amidst many distinguished veterans added more flavor to the occasion.
The Blessed Virgin is our heavenly patron and we nurture a deep devotion and attachment to our heavenly Mother. She has been a loving mother to all of us and a source of good counsel at the times of our need. The chain of rosary was unbroken throughout the month of May. At the end of the month, we all came together to honor her and thank her for the endless showers of blessing we receive through her powerful intercession. It was an evening with festival mood and delight, beginning of a joyful celebration.
