Prayer blanket ministry covers and comforts the suffering
The ministry, created in 2003 at Our Lady of Guadalupe, is a non-profit project. It has been supported by the generosity of many people who have given or received these blankets.

The Prayer Blanket Ministry is a group of caring volunteers who commit to pray for recipients of lap-size, home-sewn blankets designed for people who are either sick or going through extremely difficult times in their lives. The ministry, created in 2003 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Corpus Christi, is a non-profit project. It has been supported by the generosity of many people who have given or received these blankets.

After Mass the newly sewn blankets are blessed by a priest or a deacon. Any person who receives a blanket is lifted up in prayer. The prayer blanket is a symbol of the faith of the community who gathers to pray for the individual who receives the blanket.

Fortunately, people have given abundantly of their time and talent. These prayer blankets have brought relief to the suffering and peace to the fearful. Using the blanket, the afflicted know they are not alone, and that there are people who care about them and are praying for their healing.

Many of these blankets have been given to hospitals and nursing homes, while others have been sent out of state to soldiers. Beautiful letters from people who have received the prayer blankets write that they feel comfort and peace as the blankets cover them.

For more information about this wonderful ministry or if you know of someone who is in need of a prayer blanket, please call us. If you have received a blanket and have a story to tell us, please call Gloria Harris at 361-688-0294. All donations go toward the purchase of material to make these beautiful prayer blankets.
